Layers tab

Here are the fields for entering information related to vegetation layers (strata, tiers) in a plot. Layer definitions are found in the layer system of your project and are saved with the project (see projects). You cannot switch to a completely new layer system after the creation of a project but if you want to hide or add layers or edit layer definitions you can do so via the layer systems page. However, you should avoid any changes to a layer system if it is already in use in order to maintain data integrity.

The following attributes are available for data entry. They can be selected in the profile.

Layer attributes

* Cover (%)	Projected cover for a layer (individual plants are typically assigned to the highest layer they have reached).
Avg. height (m)	Average height reached by plants in a layer (often difficult to assess exactly)
Max height (m)	Maximum height reached by plants in a layer. Trivial if a layer's upper limit is reached.
